Melodious, exquisite and sentimental these romantic features make Kunqu Opera one of the most loved art forms in China.

Born in Suzhou,East China's Jiangsuprovince,Kunqu Opera distinguisheditself by the virtuosity of its rhythmicpatterns and became widely popularduring the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644)During the Mid-Autumn Festival in Ming and Qing dynasties (1644-1911)opera troupes often gathered in Suzhoustaging theatrical extravaganzas in ancient China.

Combining songs performed in theSuzhou dialect, graceful bodymovements, martial arts and dance,Kunqu Opera uses an endless variety ofmovements to express specific emotionsIt also.pays meticulous attention to eachnuance.Graceful movements animatedthe fingertips and unique melodies evokea rich and poetic world.

Kunqu Opera exerted a dominant influence on many forms of opera in China thereafter,including Peking Opera which is about 200 years old. It is hence known as the mother of all Chinese operas.

As an authentic embodiment of Chinese culture, stories performed in Kunqu Opera have transcended time and space.

The Peony Pavilion, written by playwright Tang Xianzu(1368-1644), who is often compared to Shakespeare is still loved by fans from around the world. A living heritage is an endless dialogue between the present and the past,and Kunqu Opera is a carrier to pass that legacy on.

Kunqu Opera was inscribed on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2008(originally proclaimed in 2001).

昆曲诞生于中国东部的江苏省苏州市,以其精湛的节奏模式而著称,并从明朝开始盛行。明清时期每逢中秋节,戏班都会聚集在苏州,上演一出出戏剧盛会

昆曲融合了苏州方言歌曲、优美的肢体动作、武术特技和舞蹈动作,用丰富的动作表现特定的情感。昆曲极其注重每一处细微差别。优雅的动作马显指尖的灵动,独特的旋律唤起浓郁的诗意。

昆曲深刻影响了其后产生的许多戏曲形式,其中包括有200年历史的京剧。昆曲因此被誉为中国戏曲之母。

昆曲作为中国文化的典型代表,其经典剧目流传久远。

昆曲代表作《牡丹亭》的作者汤显祖常被人与莎士比亚相提并论,(《牡丹亭》)至今深受世界各地观众的喜爱。鲜活的遗产是今古之间的无尽对话,而昆曲正是传承这一遗产的载体。

(2001年,昆曲被联合国教科文组织评为人类口头和非物质遗产代表作”);2008年,昆曲正式入选其“人类非物质文化遗产代表作名录”。
